Overview

Motivation is important to break old habits and to develop healthy ones. Many people struggle with getting and staying motivated, especially if they have mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. Motivation is a complex phenomenon and its precise definition is disputed. Some basic needs that motivate behavior include: Food, Water, Sex, Social interaction. Maslow (1954) set up the probably most common theory of motivation as a hierarchy of needs. It is composed of five levels of basic needs: Physiological needs, Safety, Belonging, Esteem, Self-actualization.
